Catch this Beat

February 17, 2013

various artists – catch this beat: the rocksteady years 66/68 (island lp, 1980) album

Regular readers know I’m a big rocksteady fan – as far as I’m concerned, everything clicked musically in the period from 1966 to 1968. Great songs, buckets of soul, group harmonies combined with the growth of the Jamaican (music) industry, with an endless stream of great 45s as a result. This 1980 compilation gives a thorough overview of some of the bigger hits of the era… with strict quality control, since this is one of the first releases masterminded by the legendary Steve Barrow. The sun is out as I’m typing this, it’s a sunday morning and I for one believe that the biggest part of this dreary winter is behind us. Dig in to these 16 tunes for added sunshine!

Thanks a lot for this – unfortunately the Roy Shirley track is jumping all over the place.

Julian, sorry to hear that! The computer I use to rip vinyl is on its last legs – a fresh install of the OS has been on my to-do-list for a bit.

Will try to get back to you and other readers w/ a re-ripped Roy Shirley track!
