Have a Heavy Holiday!
John Lennon was right – life is what happens to you when you’re busy making other plans. While it looks like i have fixed the audio issues that were plaguing my vinyl rips, and have succesfully moved and re-installed my record room and have DIY’d a babyroom, it is also suddenly july 7th. How did that happen? Last thing i knew i was having an Easter brunch and counting the weeks ’till the summer holiday!
My last workday of the 2010/2011 schoolyear had just been completed, and the holiday has arrived – i will be offline, off records and out of the city for the next couple of weeks… and am very much looking forward to that.I hope you all have a great holiday with(out) loved ones and/or children – see you in August!
…of course there is no way that i would let you go into summer empty-eared, so here’s a very pleasant distraction by the two-man production team MRR ADM from the US. Last i heard from them was their much-hyped red 10″ back in 2008. They released “Archive” in the last few months: CD-only, limited copies, no press, no tracklist, only the statement “For promotional use only /for licensing (master and publishing) please contact: nate nelson“. While it’s pretty cool to design a postmodern library-style release, this music deserves a wider audience. Mostly instrumental, with GonjaSufi on vocals on a few tracks, “archive” is all about heavy beats, oscillated guitars and serious headnodding. Reference points? Early Portishead, the Memphix label and the classic AEIOU II mix. Curious yet? Link for full audio above.
